Therapist

Teresa is a native North Carolinian who has nearly 30 years of counseling experience.  She lives in Northeastern NC with her spouse of 25 years, retired from the US Military, and their five cats.

Her professional experience includes working in crisis intervention, with individuals with disabilities through the NC Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, as a Student Support Services counselor, and as a community college Director of Counseling Services. Teresa has experience treating young adults and adults for a wide variety of life challenges such as chronic medical conditions, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, dissociation disorders, trauma, TBI, career changes, self-discovery/identity crisis, military retirement, and other transitions, and relationship issues.

Teresa has been a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor since 2014. She holds a BS in English and a MS in Rehabilitation Counseling from East Carolina University. She is a trained hypnotherapist who uses trauma-focused hypnosis to treat a variety of issues, as well as weight loss and smoke cessation.

Teresa is also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Flash EMDR. She became interested in treating trauma when she was treated with EMDR for complex PTSD. This was a life-changing experience for her. Now it is her life’s work to share and pay forward the gift of healing from trauma.

Her counseling style tends to be an eclectic blend of humanistic, trauma-focused, mindfulness/relaxation/visualization, psychoeducation, art techniques, and internal family systems depending on the needs of the individual(s) in therapy. She also enjoys combining her interests in holistic healing, creative writing, and the arts to enhance and facilitate healing.

She is excited and humbled to join her clients on their special journey of self-discovery and healing!
