Vanessa Nieves, MS, LMFTA

Psychotherapist

Vanessa is a proud native of coastal Connecticut and has lived in North Carolina for nearly a decade with her husband who is stationed in the area. As a former professional dancer and teacher, Vanessa has a unique understanding of the mind-body connection, which informs the holistic, “whole person”, approach to emotional well-being.

As the mother of a young son, Vanessa understands the struggles and challenges of parenting, especially while navigating the uncertainties of a military lifestyle. What really enhanced her passion for psychotherapy were the consistent stories she heard from other parents and adults about feeling overstimulated, exhausted, and at times lost for answers. She too shared these experiences and felt called to help those struggling with life’s challenges.

Vanessa graduated from Old Dominion University, earning her Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and earned her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate.

Vanessa takes a strength-based approach to treatment and utilizes techniques that empower individuals and break down negative thoughts.  Vanessa also believes in the power of connection and the importance of encouraging and supportive relationships. She explores the many influences of family and society and how those experiences shape us. She also believes that the client is the expert in their own lives and enjoys working collaboratively with people through their therapy journey. Vanessa has experience with diverse populations including at-risk teens, post-partum and pregnant women, individuals struggling with anxiety, and couples and families.

One of Vanessa’ s favorite quotes to ease anxiety and practice mindfulness is, “If the future feels overwhelming, remember that it comes one moment at a time.” Vanessa is currently accepting new clients and is excited to work with you! She offers in-person and Telehealth sessions.
